The Gauteng High Court in Pretoria announced the decision of the Minister of Home Affairs, Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi to abolish the unique document of Zimbabweans living in South Africa, the ZEP (Zimbabwe Exemption Permit) as a crime, and invalid as it is against the constitution of South Africa. This is after Helen Suzman Foundation challenged Motsoaledi’s decision following his announcement last year that ZEP would be discontinued. A ZEP is a special permit issued under the Immigration Act that allows its holders and their children temporary legal status to live, work, and study in South Africa.
